NEIGHBOURS HELPING NEIGHBOURS

Welcome to the Broke Community-Led Resilience Team (CRT)

The Broke Community-led Resilience Team was created following the July 2022 floods that devastated our township as a sub-committee of the BRCA.

Our aim is to support local residents in the preparation for weather events such as bushfires, flooding, storms and heatwaves.

BROKE CRT - GET READY PLAN

2022 - 2023 AIMS

Establishing a strong Community-led Resilience Team (CRT) requires a fair amount of work from a team of local residents dedicated to implementing systems to enhance organisation and communication during fire or flood disasters.

  • Emergency Warning System - our aim is to install a flood warning system to capture data and images so that we can better monitor Wollombi Brook. We have been working with SES and Singleton Council to determine the best system and positioning.

  • We are putting together an Emergency Directory so that residents can access up to date emergency information to help both before and during an event.

  • We are collecting resident information including names, contact numbers and addresses to make sure that we can account for and support as many people are possible during an emergency.

  • We are mapping out resources and features of each "Area" in Broke to identify possible emergency accommodation, paddocks, power and water sources, fire trails and gates, etc. Our maps will be able to help residents and emergency services (particularly if they are from out of area and lack local knowledge).

  • We are organising a calendar of "Get Ready" events that will be supported by agencies and organisations including the Red Cross,  SES, Local Land Services, Singleton Council, and the Rural Fire Brigade. The events will be educational workshops held at Broke Hall, designed to support your emergency planning for all aspects of your property's preparedness.

  • We are creating a streamlined process to help residents and businesses in their planning for a range of different emergencies.

  • We are also streamlining our communication channels so that in the event of an emergency, residents are aware of where they can receive accurate and up to date information.

how can you help us get the community better prepared?

1. Join our CRT using the online form below - you can opt-in by simply providing your name and phone number, or you can add more details depending on the level of involvement that suits you.
2. Become an 'Area Leader' - help to share information with people in your area and account for their safety during a fire or flood. Help by checking in on vulnerable residents who may need extra support.
3. Become a CRT Sponsor - help to support the CRT by contributing to ongoing expenses such as our Emergency Warning System (EWS). Have your business's logo featured on our website to demonstrate your support for the community!
4. Attend "readiness" events that help to inform and educate residents about how to best prepare for extreme weather events. The better informed we all are, the better prepared we are to respond when needed.

Stay tuned for upcoming 2023 'Get Ready' workshops for Broke...

We are putting together something pretty special - as soon as we have dates locked in we'll share them here!

JOIN THE BROKE CRT

Help our community strengthen our capacity to prepare and act in the event of a fire or flood disaster.

The purpose of the CRT is to support Broke residents in the process of getting their properties ready for extreme weather events. During an event, the CRT will help to account for and assist residents, while providing reliable and up to date information via effective communication channels.

You can opt-in to the Broke CRT using just your name and a contact phone number, or you can provide as many details as you like. It's entirely up to you!
