In 1904, the Immaculate Conception of Our Blessed Lady was built to replace the original church. In the days when the divide between Protestants and Catholics was still wide, separate churches were vital for keeping the peace, and the competitive rivalry between the two faiths was often encapsulated within the architecture. It was reported that Miss Nellie McNamara used to prepare breakfast after Sunday Mass and her breakfasts were so popular that there was no shortage of volunteers wanting to be altar boys!
